SPOTLIGHT ON: RAMIAH DOGAN, CCES CLASS OF 2022

by Jamie Bryant, Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications

Christ Church Episcopal School experiences have prepared graduating seniors for whatever comes next and to make a positive difference in the world. Each week, we will put the spotlight on a graduating senior from the Class of 2022. We hope you enjoy getting to know these amazing CCES students!

“One-of-a-kind and amazing.”  This is how Ramiah Dogan describes her experience at Christ Church Episcopal School.  It is somewhat ironic, as we are certain most teachers, faculty, and peers she has encountered throughout her 13 years at CCES would say exactly the same thing about Ramiah.

Raised alongside her mother’s nine siblings as well as the foster children in her home, Ramiah is extremely close to her family and her church, Long Branch Baptist, where her father has provided pastoral leadership for over 20 years.  It is not surprising that Ramiah chose to stay in the Upstate and attend Furman University in the fall.  “Furman just felt RIGHT,” she said.  “It felt like the perfect place for me to write the next chapter of my life.”  Ramiah also applied to Rollins College, Berry College, Clemson University, and Wofford College, but says that one of the reasons she was drawn to Furman was because of their DEP (Direct Entry Program), which is a partnership with the USC School of Medicine.  Ramiah will major in Psychology on a Pre-Med track.  Her goal is to be a medical physician.   Only ten students were picked for interviews for DEP and five were chosen to receive direct entry into medical school— Ramiah is one of those five.  “To know that my spot in medical school has been secured before I even begin my undergrad studies is exciting and mind-blowing,” she said.  “I know that CCES has prepared me for not only the rigor that Furman offers, but for success as well.”

Ramiah says she is overall grateful to be a Cavalier.  We are humbled and grateful to have had such a remarkable student and special human being walk these halls.  Ramiah represents the best of everything CCES has to offer.  Her kind heart and generosity of spirit is demonstrated in her extracurriculars and involvement.  “Ramiah’s attitude of service overflows into each activity she pursues,” says her college counselor Bartley Sides.  “From multiple mission trips to Rwanda, South Africa, and Zimbabwe to teaching preschool Sunday School (over Zoom no less!), Ramiah is focused on the well-being of others.”  Indeed she is.  She was a part of the Cavalier Crew in 8th grade, a mentorship with fifth graders; P.E.E.R.S. in 11-12th grade, a mentorship with first and second grade students that are a part of Youth Base, where she helps students with reading, math, and English; and a student ambassador in 9-12th grade.  She was voted “Most Considerate” in middle school.  Ramiah never loses sight of her ability to impact one person at a time.

On top of these incredible personal qualities, Ramiah is also is an active, engaged, and focused member of her classes— as evidenced by her regular Honor Roll achievement and three AP courses.   She loves all of her classes, and enjoys being challenged.

“Ramiah is a changemaker, an impactful leader, and a giving soul,” says Mr. Sides.  “She is always working to make the world a better place.”  Ramiah knows her purpose, and she will leave the campus of Furman University a better place, just as she has done at Christ Church Episcopal School.
