Spotlight On: Aidan Owens, CCES Class of 2022

Kim Gendron, Social Media Coordinator

Christ Church Episcopal School experiences have prepared graduating seniors for whatever comes next and to make a positive difference in the world. Each week, we will put the spotlight on a graduating senior from the Class of 2022. We hope you enjoy getting to know these amazing CCES students!

Stress-free. That is the motto by which Aidan Owens ’22 lives each day and what guides many of his decisions. Not to say that he doesn’t seek challenges or try new things, because he certainly does. For Aidan, seeking to keep life as stress-free as possible translates to a wide variety of courses, extracurricular activities, and some very unique and fun hobbies on the side.

It’s this same spirit that led Aidan to a school that is over 700 miles away, Ithaca College in upstate New York. He describes choosing Ithaca as a “mixture of gut feelings and preference toward colder temperatures.” Aidan describes the campus as “incredible” and the town as “beautiful and high energy.” He says, “It was just a place that I began to think ‘I could live there.’”

Associate Director of College Counseling, Bartley Sides, describes Aidan as having “eclectic interests” that are reflected in the courses he took during his high school years. Case in point, Aidan plans to major in Art and minor in Mathematics at Ithaca. This will allow him to develop his creative side, while still experiencing the satisfaction he finds in more analytical pursuits.

Aidan is a 13-year veteran of CCES, having been a student since Primer. Many of his favorite memories revolve around his extracurricular activities – musicals (he participated in all but one), creating and leading the Super Smash Bros Club with a group of friends, and being involved with Acafellas and Handbells. For a student that appreciates low levels of stress, being able to balance a very rigorous course load, especially in math, with fun endeavors on the side makes a lot of sense.

In his free time outside of school, Aidan is a collector. He started collecting decorative spoons after a trip to Europe with his family. A spoon at the Crown Jewels caught his eye and the rest is history! Aidan even focused his senior thesis on the decorative spoon, becoming an apprentice blacksmith for the project and was able to forge 3 spoons by hand. Aidan also has his scuba diving license, thanks to his half-sister who owns her own company. He has been diving in Costa Rica and Clearwater, Florida.

Mr. Sides calls Aidan an “out of the box thinker” who is “mature, introspective, and attentive to the world around him.” While Aidan will start a new chapter in New York in the fall, we know he will continue to collect a variety of classes and experiences, while never letting challenges get in the way of staying as stress-free as possible.

Just for fun!
Three bucket list destinations: Spain, Mexico, Egypt
If you could share an afternoon with anyone, who would it be? I would share an afternoon with just about anyone willing. Even if we do literally nothing, I’m more comfortable in company regardless of what I’m doing.
Go-to karaoke song? “I am the Walrus” by The Beatles – I had a ton of fun singing it last time, and it gets a nice rile or laugh out of any audience.
On the weekends, you’ll find me… seeking out any excuse to hang out with my friends. If I am alone, then I tend to stay at home and do nothing.
The number one thing I’m looking forward to at college is… meeting new people and continuing doing what I love.
