2023 Homegoing Week Recap

Dodson Kramer, CCES Class of 2026

Homegoing is always a fun week at CCES, with many events and activities centered around school spirit and giving back to the community. It is an especially exciting time for our grade level, the CCES Class of 2026, as this is our first Homegoing experience at the Upper School. This year, the student council chose Conestee Nature Preserve as the beneficiary of all fundraising activities!

Homegoing 2023 kicked off with Roller Skating on Sunday night. Students skated the night away at Roller Time Skate Rink under the disco lights!

Monday morning arrived and students showed up to school dressed as "BBQ Dads and Soccer Moms," outfits complete with fanny packs, visors, and sunglasses. TCBY was on campus during lunch, with the best froyo in the country available for us to purchase as a treat. In the evening, the student body gathered for the competitive Homegoing Volleyball tournament which ended with the senior boys beating the junior boys in the final.

Tuesday’s theme was "Socs and Greasers" from The Outsiders, a nod to the upcoming Upper School Musical production of Grease: School Edition. In the evening, we packed out McCall Field House to watch the JV Boys, Varsity Girls, and Varsity Boys Basketball teams all come away with W’s over Southside Christian. The student section is always loud while the game is in play, but many also helped clean up the gym after.

On Wednesday, each grade level dressed as a different decade - freshmen brought back outfits from BC, sophomores were the 2000’s,  juniors had to imagine what fashion in 2040 will look like, and seniors were the 70’s. The Wacky Talent Show was originally scheduled for Wednesday night, but was changed to Thursday night.

Despite Thursday being Chapel day, we were allowed to come dressed with the theme of "Despicable Me." Thursday evening’s activities combined the Wacky Talent Show with the Senior Skits - students were able to reveal hidden talents and Homegoing Court nominees performed skits.

On Friday, students came to school wearing their Homegoing t-shirts and PJ's. Bucky's Barbeque served a catered lunch, including pulled pork, baked beans, mac and cheese, and more! In the afternoon, we all headed to the gym for the legendary Faculty-Student basketball game, with the students winning for the first time in over ten years! That evening, we were back at the gym for the Homegoing games vs Brashier Middle College. Basketball and Wrestling celebrated senior night and the Cavaliers ended the evening 3-0 once again. At halftime of the Varsity Boys Basketball game, the Homegoing Court was introduced and BJ Atkins was crowned Homegoing King!

It was an exciting and busy first Homegoing Week for myself and the rest of the freshman class. It’s always fun to see the student body come together for events and to raise money for a local organization. My favorite memory from the week was being in the student section on Friday night and watching everyone be supportive, cheering on the teams. Thank you to student council, advisors, and administration for making this week possible!
