Summer Camps Offerings

I wanted to share how amazing you and the entire Summer Encounters team have been this year!  Our girls have attended Summer Encounters for the past several years. Each year, we wrap up camps and prep for the next school year within our school,  however, the service, dedication, communication and attention is not the same. Our family is blessed to share in a part of the wonderful team at CCES!

Summer encounters parent

Important Note: To allow our team to prepare the best experience for your campers, registration for each week of camp closes the prior Wednesday. Additions and changes cannot be made after that time.

Biblical Studies For Credit

July 14 - 25 ●  8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. ● rising 9 to 10 ● $850
July 14 - 25 ●  1 p.m. – 5 p.m. ● rising 9 to 10 ● $850
Instructor: Jason Smith, CCES Upper School Religion Teacher

Biblical Studies is a required survey course of both the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible and the New Testament. The goal of this course is twofold: first, that students leave the course biblically literate and, second, that students work towards becoming charitable interpreters of religious texts. We will work towards the first goal of biblical literacy by studying the major characters, events, and theological themes of both Testaments. Students will work towards seeing how the entirety of the Bible fits together as one unified story, where every part, no matter how obscure, has some sort of relation with all of the others. We will work towards the second goal of becoming charitable interpreters by placing the Bible in dialogue with current cultural, moral, and political questions. Students will strive throughout the course to articulate their own beliefs more clearly and to engage with perspectives that differ from their own in a charitable but critical manner. Student work will include major projects, socratic seminars, interview assignments, plentiful at-home reading, and a final exam. The course is offered in a morning or afternoon session. Prior to the beginning of the course, students will have several assignments to complete at home before beginning in-person class. These assignments will be provided at least a week in advance. During the course, students are expected to attend their respective four hour session every day for the two weeks of the course. Absences during the course are equivalent to something like a week and a half of class time during a normal semester! Thus, absences must be made up, ideally by attending the other session of the course for that day. If this makeup attendance is not possible the instructor will allow one, and only one, absence to be made up via extra at-home work. Absences beyond that may result in a loss of course credit. Absences due to unforeseen illness will be supported to the extent possible.
