Summer Encounters College Intern Program

About Us
CCES Summer Encounters is a day camp program in Greenville, SC. We host a comprehensive, diverse, and exciting collection of summer camp programs that provide meaningful opportunities for campers in (rising) grades K4 to 12. We offer a variety of day camp activities, extended stay options, and schedules. There are a total of 250 unique summer camps from May 31st to August 12th.

We are looking for college interns to provide support to the Summer Encounters staff as well as leadership and oversight to high school counselors and campers. Responsibilities include supporting the Summer Encounters staff with daily operations, assisting Camp Teachers during sessions, overseeing the growth and mentorship of high school counselors, and creating a positive, fun environment for campers to explore and grow.  Qualified candidates should be working toward a college degree and have experience working with children. This person should also possess good problem solving skills, have an upbeat personality, work well with a team, and have an overall positive attitude. Interns can expect to work 20-30 hours each week varying between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Compensation is paid hourly. 

  • Implement all Summer Encounters Guidelines for working with campers.
  • Create a positive environment for all by maintaining an adaptable and upbeat attitude.
  • Serve as a positive role model for all, keeping in mind one’s own behavior, language, attitude and appearance,
  • Maintain professional relations with staff and campers. Details of personal relationships between staff members or others should not be brought up or displayed at camp.
  • Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, the natural environment and CCES campus facilities.
  • Assist and oversee the growth and mentorship of Senior and Junior Counselors.
  • Participate in all training sessions, meetings, and Wow & Pow sessions.
  • Participate in In-Take, Camp Sessions, Dismissal, and Extended Stay.
  • Assist Camp Teachers during sessions, restroom and snack breaks.
  • Follow the Behavior Ladder process for behavioral issues.
  • Network with Program Leaders.
  • Support Summer Encounters staff and take ownership of various weekly and daily operations/duties.
  • Collaborate to plan and execute staff/counselor events and an end of summer celebration.
Education / Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Pursuing college degree in a related field
  • Extensive experience working with children
  • Experience working with high school students
