Upper School Concert Choir is a year-long graded course which includes standard and contemporary choral repertoire.
This course is designed to provide appropriate musical training and development to participating woodwind, brass, and percussion students. The class will prepare students to continue music at the collegiate, community, and church levels. Students will have the opportunity to experience full ensemble and small ensemble playing. The development of comprehensive musicians will result from learning that includes: all of the musical elements (rhythm, melody, harmony, expression, form, and style), musical skills (playing, singing, moving, creating, reading, writing, and listening), and musical repertoire (band). The majority of class time will be spent playing one’s instrument. The equivalent of one class per week will be used to discuss/examine music theory, history, and compositional skills. There will be two concerts a year as well as chapel and other performance opportunities.

This class emphasizes higher-level music skills including rhythm, melody, harmony, expression, form, style, individual performance skills, ensemble skills and an appreciation of the appropriate level string repertoire.
