The Middle School Experience

The Middle School years are an important time in a child’s development. From fifth through eighth grade, CCES seeks to provide support and nurturing, while also promoting growth and independence. In balancing these developmental needs, we will help propel them forward through Middle School, Upper School, and far beyond.

Teachers in the Middle School focus on building relationships and are responsive to the individualized needs of each student. The curriculum our students explore seeks to cultivate a growth mindset, resilience, and intellectual curiosity. This is balanced with a breadth of opportunities in athletics, the arts, and extracurricular activities where they are encouraged to pursue their passions with confidence, try new things, and most of all have fun!
Middle School Students

When experiencing the Middle School at CCES students and families will see a balance of academic rigor, students being encouraged to foster a growth mindset, and an individualized approach to social/emotional growth.

What set us apart

The Cavalier Way

Students are expected to strive to uphold the traits of a Middle School Cavalier through The Cavalier Way. These statements support the ideals of CCES: Character, Community, Excellence, and Service; they serve as a constant reminder for students of how they should care for themselves and others.

Advisory/CavTime

Advisory, or CavTime, a central part of the CCES Middle School experience, is where students focus on observing and practicing The Cavalier Way in their lives and our greater community. Every Middle School student is included in an advisory group of students, which is facilitated by a teacher at their grade level. That advisor greets his or her advisees first thing every morning, spends time with them during study hall, and leads a 40 minute CavTime session twice per week.

School Counseling

The mission of the CCES Middle School Counseling program is to encourage the highest level of student achievement through academic and personal/social domains.  In partnership with students, teachers, parents and a caring community, the school counselor helps nurture students’ intellectual development, personal integrity, sense of community and self-worth, while promoting an understanding and appreciation of the diversity of persons.

Wetlands Lab

The CCES Wetlands Lab gives students the opportunity to get out of their text books and step into a thriving ecological habitat right here on campus. Hands-on learning experiences foster a greater sense of connection and responsibility to the natural world and inspire them to be stewards
of our environment.

T.I.D.E. (Technology, Innovation, Design, & Entrepreneurship)

The T.I.D.E. Lab curriculum facilitates project-based learning opportunities to promote critical thinking, inquiry processes, and problem solving. The goal is to help students learn through empathy, inquiry, ideation, solution creation, prototyping, and evaluation.

Daily Recess, PE, & Study Hall

Students enjoy a well-rounded schedule that includes daily recess, physical education (PE), and study hall. This holistic approach not only promotes physical health through structured activities but also fosters academic success by providing dedicated time for focused study and academic support. With a balance of physical activity and academic enrichment, we aim to nurture the overall well-being and development of every student.
