Linda Schulz Named Upstate Parent's 10 Educators Who Make A Difference 2022

Schulz and her husband have three rescued dogs and she has volunteered for years with therapeutic riding programs. But in her role as Director of College Counseling at Christ Church Episcopal School, Schulz helps young people set their course for the future.

“I have been counseling students in regard to the college admission process for over 35 years,” she said. “I started my career as an assistant director of admission at Newberry College. I then worked as associate director of admission at Oglethorpe University for over 8 years. After 14 years as a college admission professional, I realized that my real passion was guiding students in discovering their next step after high school and their ‘right fit’ college. I knew I would thrive counseling teenagers in a secondary school setting.” 

And she has done just that, finding delight in helping students navigate a changing college admission landscape. 

“I believe teaching and counseling are professions where one can truly make a profound difference,” she said. “Helping young adults navigate their pathways through high school and to college or their next step is extremely rewarding and uplifting. This year at CCES, we have been asked, ‘What’s your why?’ My succinct answer: to serve as an advocate for young adults.”

Schulz moved a great deal as a child, which means she doesn’t have the childhood friends that many of her own students do. But that perspective gives her an appreciation for people from all walks of life.

“Human beings are so vastly unique,” she said. “I strive to look for the things we have in common while valuing our differences.”
