Mariela Ramos ’24 and Molly Morgan ‘23, Serve on Greenville Youth Commission for 2021-22 Term

by Jamie Bryant, Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications

Congratulations to 10th grader Mariela Ramos, who was recently appointed to serve on Greenville’s Youth Commission, along with 11th grader Molly Morgan, who was appointed in August and is serving her second term on the Commission.

The Youth Commission advises City Council, the City Manager, and City staff to ensure Greenville youth are involved in Greenville’s comprehensive planning.  The Commission serves to increase communication between the city's adults and its youth and ensure that youth are an integral part of government decision making.  This is exactly what Mariela had in mind when she applied.  “I wanted high school students and just kids of our age to have a voice in what happens in our city,” she said.

Mariela and Molly serve along with 10 other youth council members.  Their interest in engaging with the local community, as well as her initiative to become a part of local democracy, is commendable and another great way for CCES to be represented within the community.

“I think that our generation is the voice of the future,” said Molly, “so giving us an opportunity to prepare for future responsibilities and roles in our communities is vital.”  Although the commission has been working remotely, Molly says they are able to brainstorm ideas together over Zoom and come up with ways to get high school students involved in the greater Greenville community.

Thanks to Mariela and Molly for their willingness to serve and congratulations on this honor!  CCES is honored to have both of you setting such a wonderful example for the rest of the Cavalier community!
