Victoria Mullen '24 Named the 2024 Epiphany Scholar
On Thursday, January 18, CCES Upper School students and faculty gathered in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd for the annual Epiphany Chapel service, which celebrates the CCES Epiphany Scholar. This scholarship was established in 1991 and is advanced by the Rector of Christ Church Episcopal to honor a student who exemplifies a commitment to Christian values through worship, sensitivity, and outreach to others. The student should also exemplify a personal manifestation of love of God and God’s people in one’s daily life at school, at church, and within the community. This year’s Epiphany Scholar Award recipient is Victoria Mullen ’24.
Elizabeth Jarrett ’82, Director of Service and Experiential Learning, introduced Victoria. She described her as a person who “not only shines in the classroom, but everywhere she happens to be.”
Jarrett spoke about the impact Victoria has had on her personally, sharing, “She is a natural leader who is always looking for ways to serve others.” She described how Victoria uses her artistic gifts to serve – from designing a proposal for an after-school art program for underserved children in Greenville for her sophomore project, to volunteering at Serenity Place and teaching mothers painting which greatly impacts their sense of empowerment and self-confidence.
When speaking about Victoria, it’s hard not to mention the incredible impact she has on the CCES community. She is described by all who know her as “intentional, faithful, humble, and kind.” She is mindful of her actions and words, aware of how they can impact others. She seamlessly integrates her beliefs and values into her actions – treating others with respect and striving for excellence in all areas of life. “Her faith is genuine and her love for God and others is evident in the joy and peace she emanates.”
Victoria’s close friend, Emory Allen ’24, spoke about their friendship over the past four years, as the two met as new students in the 8th grade. Emory describes Victoria as “one of the most friendly and genuinely kind people” she’s ever met. She shared, “Victoria radiates so much joy that it’s hard to not want to be her friend. Her positivity and light shine through no matter the circumstances. She is selfless and humble, truly embodying all the qualities of the Epiphany Scholar, and more.”
