THREE CCES STUDENT-ATHLETES SIGN THEIR LETTERS OF INTENT
Christ Church Episcopal School celebrated the successes of three senior student-athletes on Wednesday, February 7, during a signing ceremony. Family, friends, teammates, coaches, faculty, and school officials gathered in Rooke Theater to watch Matthew Covington, Charlie Creech, and Jasmine Ford sign their letters of intent. Matthew Covington will be playing football at Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina, Charlie Creech will be joining the Shotgun team at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina, and Jasmine Ford will be playing soccer at Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana.
Director of Athletics, Molly Miller, welcomed family, coaches, administration, teachers, friends, and teammates of these three seniors and thanked them for all their support in both athletic and academic endeavors. Miller went on to expand on each student, sharing thoughts from their teachers and coaches.
Matthew Covington is described by his teachers as easy-going, friendly, respectful, and “a young adult of strong character.” He is known for being hardworking in pursuit of the goals he sets for himself.
Varsity Football Head Coach, Quin Hatfield, describes Matthew’s dedication and consistent hard work, committing to play football as a sophomore and becoming a two-way starter by his senior year. Hatfield notes that Matthew didn’t miss a summer workout, demonstrating his dependability and work ethic. As a person, Covington is “authentic and humble, never complaining and always putting forth great effort.” He is coachable and a great teammate, and will no doubt make a positive impact at Presbyterian.
Teachers describe Charlie Creech as consistent and dependable. He works hard, always leaning into the task at hand. In the classroom, he is known for his work ethic and exhibiting a passion for learning.
His coach, Danny Roth, describes the tremendous growth he has seen in Charlie over the years, becoming a “great young man and an outstanding shooter.” CCES Shooting Clays Club Coach, Gina Varat, calls Charlie “an accomplished shooter.” She gives a long list of Charlie’s accomplishments, which includes a State Championship and an All-State Award, an honor given to only three juniors. She says, “Our club is losing a mentor, a leader, and a friend – and Clemson is gaining one amazing student-athlete!”
Jasmine Ford is described by her teachers as authentic, reliable, and honest. She is unafraid to face challenges head-on and strives toward excellence. She brings joy and care to her work and to those around her.
CCES Girls Soccer Head Coach, Ashley Seeley, calls Jasmine “one of the best goalies to come through Christ Church.” Jasmine came to CCES as a freshman and immediately stepped in, established herself as a leader, and earned a starting role. She has been All-State her freshman, sophomore, and junior years, but still plays “like she has something to prove to everyone” and is “constantly working hard to improve in every area of her game.” Seeley says, “I sit here with nothing but pride, love, and joy as I watch this unbelievable young lady soar!”
Congratulations to these three student-athletes for all of their accomplishments, both athletically and academically. CCES will always be cheering for you and looks forward to witnessing all the things to come in these next chapters. Go Cavs!
